Let’s Win $20,000 for Mighty Moms

Our very own, Beth Clark, is being nominated for BlueCross BlueShield’s Angel Award by a dear friend, Cathy.  Part of the nomination asks for newspaper clippings, photographs, letters of support, videotapes, DVDs, etc.  Beth is humbled by the very notion, but we’re asking that you write a letter of support in Beth’s honor.    Because you know as well as I do, Beth gives selflessly of her time and energy for Mighty Moms, I am asking you to write a recommendation letter on her behalf.

Mighty Moms stands to gain $20,000 dollars if Beth wins.  Are you running the numbers for how many children we’ll feed with that?!   If you can help, please address a few key points in your letter, including:

  • What is your perception of the community Beth serves (Eastover)?
  • What does the nominee do to serve Louisiana children?
  • Did the nominee initiate new programs or activities and use new methods to solve problems?
  • Has the activity or service provided by the nominee produced positive changes and provided examples for other groups?
  • What results has the nominee produced?
  • What amount of time does the nominee devote to the activity or service?
  • Was the nominee active, not a figurehead?
  • Has the nominee overcome unusual challenges, such as limited resources, public perceptions of the problem or a personal disability?

The nomination deadline is Friday, April 5, 2013. If you can take just a moment to send a recommendation letter for Beth, who is a deserving advocate for children, she could be chosen as an honoree, and you will have played a large part in aiding a worthy local effort.  Please send your letter of recommendation before April 5 in one of the following ways:

About the Angel Award

Celebrating its 19th anniversary, the Angel Award is a statewide recognition program honoring exceptional volunteer efforts on behalf of Louisiana youth. Because making a difference in Louisiana’s communities requires time and money, the Angel Award includes a $20,000 grant from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation for each honoree’s charity.

Thank you so much for your help!  Your recommendation letter will help give Beth the best shot at getting recognized for the time and dedication she gives to the Mighty Moms organization and the children of Louisiana.

If you would like to know more about the Angel Award program or would like to nominate someone, please go to www.bcbsla.com/angelaward or call 1-888-219-BLUE (2583).

Mighty Moms: Recent News

The Advocate Feature, Google Apps, Upcoming Food Barrel Program…

First of all, Mighty Moms is so thrilled to have reached a new audience of Moms, Dads and caring individuals throughout the Greater Baton Rouge area show an outpouring of support after reading our story in The Advocate.  (Also in PDF form)  We have many areas in our ministry that need volunteers with special gifts.  You are endowed with gifts and we invite you to share your talents, you computer whizzes, shoppers, cooks, writers, and so much more.  Would you pray about what your gifts are and if you would be willing to help us in that area?  We know that God had your gift in mind when he lead you to our site and we are excited to watch HIM grow this ministry beyond our wildest dreams.

We’re so thankful for you, your time and your talents; we want to make the most of these gifts!  We’re just getting setup on Google Apps which will (hopefully) help us organize and coordinate our volunteers.  Through this, we will be adding a public calendar of upcoming events.  So you don’t miss a single thing, you can even add the calendar to your own Outlook, smartphone or Google Calendar!  We’ll be updating our contact page for specific email addresses, but first things first!  We also have some big news!

An upcoming FOOD BARREL PROGRAM is being worked out with a group of Livingston Parish professionals teamed together through the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce.  We have an ambitious starting goal of 50 barrels throughout the Denham Springs, Watson and Walker areas.  We need locations to home the barrels and volunteers to collect the food.   We will be posting more information on our site (under PROJECTS), but until then you can read about the Mighty Moms Food Barrel Program Proposal or contact us if you are interested in helping us out with this program.

Full Tummy Project Food Drive

WOW! What a great day we had on Saturday at Albertson’s for our first annual FULL TUMMY PROJECT FOOD DRIVE.

A great big thank you to KLOVE, Albertson’s, Trooper Graham and his rollover simulator, DS Marshal’s office, Christ Community Church, and ALL of our wonderful dedicated volunteers and family members who helped make this day possible. A super BIG HUG to all of you who donated food items and money to help us feed hungry kids in our community. I could go on and on about how we are still on Cloud 9…we are pumped about all the goodness that was received on Saturday.

Giving God all the glory for this food drive Saturday.. Full Tummy Project 2012-2013 is starting off with a BANG. The awareness in childhood hunger was brought to a new level, that’s for sure! There is 1 in 4 children hungry right here in our town and I know that WE can make a DIFFERENCE. Mighty Moms, partnering with Christ, and all of you…that statistic doesn’t have to stay 1 in 4 for long. This Mighty Mom is rejoicing today with a heart full of smiles and joy.

Let them (us) give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men.

Psalm 107:15
