How It All Began

ORDINARY PEOPLE ON AN EXTRAORDINARY MISSION

In 2010, several moms gathered to pray for their children, friends, teachers and leaders. We learned about children in our own community who were often going without food. We knew that we had to do something to help, so we started Mighty Moms.

Through the Grace of God, we were able to go into local neighborhoods and host Bible studies, spreading the Word of God to children as well as their families. Our wonderful local churches volunteered to join us for crafts, games, activities, fun and lots of LOVE.

The Full Tummy Program

In 2010, the Full Tummy program began as a way to help feed hungry kids whose only nourishing meals come from the school cafeteria.

The Full Tummy program works with the school system to distribute food each week. School guidance counselors give Mighty Moms the number of children who need food for the weekend. Volunteers pack a bag for each child, and deliver it to the child’s school, providing extra snacks and meals to last them through the weekend.

As kids get older, many students choose to get food monthly from a “Mighty Moms Pantry.” This is a closet, located on the school campus, stocked with full-sized items. In this way, our program grows with the students.

It’s truly a team effort. With the support of the Livingston Parish School Board, guidance counselors, teachers, administrators, and a team of volunteers, we are fighting childhood hunger one Full Tummy at a time.


Feeding Young Minds

In 2022, Mighty Moms started its newest program, Feeding Young Minds, to not only reach children, but impact their families as well. This program provides monthly family meal kit boxes that feed the minds, bodies, and family culture of food-insecure children in Livingston Parish.

We also launched a YouTube channel to teach parents and older kids how to prepare a healthy meal.

Through the Grace of God, Mighty Moms has grown larger than we ever could have imagined. We are grateful to spread the love of Jesus to the hungry children in Livingston Parish.
